The Blue Eye application was presented – a synergy of citizens and experts in solving problems and protecting the Adriatic Sea

first_imgOn the occasion of World Ocean Day, which is celebrated on June 8, the Natural History Museum of Rijeka presented the Blue Eye mobile application, which is intended for systematic recording of data on marine organisms and marine pollution in order to increase knowledge about the sea and its effective protection.Anyone who stays in nature, on land or on, and in the sea, while walking, hiking, diving, sailing or swimming can report the observation of an unusual event that threatens the current state of the environment. When encountering an unknown, interesting, or potentially dangerous species, you can find out what you saw, whether the plant or animal species is protected, rare, or dangerous. “By registering for the Blue Eye application and filling in the data, we will receive information about your observation in nature, an unusual event or a recorded species along the coast, in or on the surface of the sea. At the same time, as soon as possible you will receive feedback, find out what kind it is, its biology and ecology as well as the solution to the problem, if it is pollution”They point out from the Natural History Museum in Rijeka and add that the recorded data provide experts with useful data that serve them in further research, and feedback on the recorded species correctly inform the public.By submitting photos and data, citizens, individuals actively participate and help in professional and scientific research (Citizen Science), which provides a better overview of the movement of a particular species or group of organisms and is more effective in organizing measures to protect the Adriatic Sea.Ultimately, the purpose of using the application is mutual – fast information and education of citizens as well as effective action of responsible services and experts in solving possible problems in the protection of the Adriatic Sea.Win – wn for everything.See more about the Blue Eye project and the mobile application herelast_img read more
