first_imgStory Links Print Friendly Version Live Video DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University football team hosts Pioneer Football League rival Butler University Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. for Drake’s annual Homecoming/Family Weekend game.The game will also be a celebration of 125 seasons of Drake football with players from various eras dating back to the 1940s being honored and recognized.Drake leads the all-time series, 18-8-1, and hopes to extend its winning streak against Butler to three games. Drake has owned the matchup at home, they are 11-1 all-time and haven’t lost a game in Des Moines since 1994.Drake has been on a tear offensively, scoring a combined 93 points in their past two games. Quarterback Grant Kraemer has thrown 10 touchdown passes in those two games while receiver Steven Doran has posted back-to-back 100-yard games and hauled in 100 or more yards receiving in five of his last six games.Defensively, Drake has held its last two opponents to just 196.5 yards per game and 13 total offensive points. Those impressive performances helped Kieran Severa earn Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and fumble recovery in the Bulldogs’ dominating 41-9 win at Jacksonville to open PFL play. Butler’s season got off to a good start, knocking off No. 24 ranked Youngstown State in week one.The last time these two teams met, Drake won, 27-16, in Indianapolis. Drake led wire-to-wire with the help of a strong game from Kraemer, who had 329 yards passing on 27 completions. He spread the ball well, and four different receivers finished with five or more receptions.After this Saturday’s game, Drake hosts Stetson on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. to close out this two-game homestand.
