DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men’s tennis team returns to the Roger Knapp Tennis Center Saturday for a doubleheader. The Bulldogs will face off against No. 35 Old Dominion at 11 a.m. and then they will take on UMKC at 6 p.m. After the doubleheader Saturday, Drake hosts another double-header on April 14 against Wichita State at 10 a.m. and Valparaiso at 5 p.m. Print Friendly Version UMKC is on a three-game winning streak after hosting a three-day event last weekend, but they have struggled on the road with only two wins in ten matches. UMKC has four separate players with eight singles wins, led by Airam Castellano who has the best record at 8-5. Castellano and another eight-win singles player, Alex Pozo, are the team’s leading doubles pair with a record of 9-4. Old Dominion is currently the No. 35 team in the nation, and Junior Aziz Kijametovic is a big part of their success. Kijametovic is the No. 89 singles player nationally, in addition to a No. 73 ranking with his doubles partner Francois Musitelli. The Monarchs have won six straight meets, including a 4-0 win over Middle Tennessee. The match against Drake will be their eighth straight match on the road. The Bulldogs lost their last match 4-2 on the road against Middle Tennessee. The Blue Raiders won the first two doubles matches, which put them up 1-0. Drake fought hard in the singles portion of the meet, but couldn’t pull ahead of Middle Tennessee. Ben Clark was the first Bulldog to get a point with a 6-4, 6-4 win. Barney Thorold won the other point for Drake despite dropping the first set 6-2. Ben Clark’s win put his singles win total at 13, which is the best on the team. Not far behind is Tom Hands, who dropped his singles match after taking an early lead, with 12 wins.
