first_imgDonegal Golf Club (Murvagh)Captains Day – Mr Frank CookMr Frank Cooks Captains Day was readymade to make his family and friends who had travelled from the sunny south east feel at home. Organisation on the day was of the highest order with Michael (D) Gallagher ensuring that all the groups got away on time and Hookie Bookie (Hugh Dillon) available to relieve members (who believed they could predict the outcome) of some funds. It was perfect golfing conditions and this was reflected in some excellent scores. Adrian Gallagher produced the round of his life to win the much coveted 1st prize.Kiernan Keeney in 2nd and John Meehen (PO) in 3rd would also be extremely happy at the end of their rounds with scores that would normally take the premier prize.Adrian began with a solid 1st nine; however, it was on the back nine that the popular electrician really lit up his round. Four pars from the 10th to the 13th created the framework for an excellent score that contained only two dropped shots on the inward nine. The highlight of the round was a Tiger Woods like chip-in for a 3 from the back of the 17th that was greeted with a series of high fives from his supportive playing partners. The Ladies had competed for the Captains prize to Ladies on the previous Tuesday with Marie McGarvey leading the way with a 69.Kevin Woods took the honours with an excellent 43pts in the Juniors competition. The visitors prize on the day was won by Tony Carr.Following a superb meal Captain Cook had a nautical theme in his Captains address to a packed Clubhouse in which he acknowledged the work of all those involved in running the club. Presentation of the wonderful array of prizes followed and the day concluded with music from Jodie Gallagher.Results:1. Adrian Gallagher (18) 642. Kieran Keeney (25) 66 (BOT) 3.
