The room was packed with friends and family, with an opening set from The Nigel Hall Band and a late-night throwdown from Adam Deitch and Borahm Lee‘s Break Science. The Nigel Hall Band kicked off the night with some soul-satisfying originals from his debut album, Ladies & Gentlemen, including “Don’t Change For Me,” “Gimme A Sign,” and “Lay Away.” Hall’s smoking hot band consists of Derwin “Big D” Perkins on guitar, Eric Vogel on bass, Donnie Sundal on keys, Jamison Ross on drums, and featured Lettuce’s Adam Smirnoff on guitar. The modern funk kings descended upon the stage for ninety minutes of full-on-rage. With special guests Oteil Burbridge and Cyril Neville in the house, Lettuce’s set was particularly on fire.Oteil joined in for Lettuce originals “Breakout” > “Relax,” where he provided his bass-thumping, scat-singing soulful talents. Then, the legendary Neville brother joined in for a cover of The Meters’ “Doodle Oop (Under the Weather)” and “Okey Doke,” bringing up the energy to an all time high. Nigel Hall brought the power for “Squadlive” and “Do Your Thing,” before Lettuce closed their show with three songs from their most recent album Crush, “Trillogy,” “The Force,” and a dance-heavy “Phyllis” for the encore. Here’s a fan-shot clip of Cyril Neville sitting in with Lettuce for The Meters’ “Doodle Oop (under the weather)”:Check out the full gallery below, courtesy of Jeremy Scott:Setlist: Lettuce at The Joy Theater, New Orleans, LA – 4/29/16:Set: Dr. Digglesworth, Yakatori, The Dump, Go-Go, Pocket Change, Breakout# -> Relax#, Chief, Doodle Oop (under the weather)*, Okey Doke*, Squadlive+, Do Your Thing+, Trillogy, The ForceEncore: Phyllis*with Cyril Neville+with Nigel Hall#with Oteil Burbridgelast_img read more
