Hurling: Burt do the double in minor finals

first_imgThursday night saw some great hurling action with both Minor Championship Finals being played and also a couple of U 16 games.Minor A Final.Burt was the setting for the much awaited A Championship Final between holders Buncrana and St Eunans and what a game it turned out to be, these two teams gave it their all. It was nip and tuck throughout and two late scores at the end of the first half saw Buncrana lead at half time 1.6 to 1.4. For the first 15 minutes of the second half it was the Letterkenny lads who dominated as they scored 6 points without reply. As the game entered the final stages a shock looked on the cards as Eunans led by two points with the game in injury time, but Buncrana showed the character of champions, as they claimed victory with the last puc of the game hitting the net from a 30 metre free. At the full time whistle there was heartbreak for St Eunans who had come so close to claiming an historic victory, Buncrana can thank their never say die attitude for this win, although not playing well they ground out this victory and completed the league and championship double for the third year in a row at this grade. Great credit is due to both teams who served up such a great game in terrible weather conditions. Minor B FinalBurt and Aodh Ruadh met in the B Championship Final in the Centre of Excellence in Convoy, Burt raced into an early lead with a goal in the 1st minute of the game as the young Aodh Ruadh team started very nervously. They gradually clawed their way back into the game and rattled off three points without reply to level the game, Burt were reduced to 14 men after 10 minutes of the game and as is so often the case it seemed to inspire them to up their work rate. Burt got some great long range points and went in at half time leading 1.6 to 0.4, weather conditions were atrocious but it didn’t stop both teams from giving their all in this hard fought contest. Burt got off to a great start with the first point of the second half, their greater desire and determination were key factors in this game. The physically stronger Burt lads imposed themselves on the game the longer it went on but the young Aodh Ruadh team deserve great credit for never giving up and battling to the end. Burt were not going to be denied and ran out comfortable winners 2.11 to 1.6.U 16 Div 2Setanta opened their U 16 campaign at home with a convincing victory over Carndonagh, they put on a great display and looked very strong.Four Masters continued their good start to the season with a comfortable win away to Letterkenny Gaels.Hurling: Burt do the double in minor finals was last modified: July 22nd, 2016 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:BURTHURLINGMinorlast_img read more
